SECTION ONE: Back to Basics
Quick, easy, basic
recipes utilizing readily available staples. The kind of recipes
every family uses -- filling, affordable and fast. Everyday
meals like meatloaf, pasta dishes, rice dishes -- the
basics. |
SECTION TWO: Camp Cooking
A collection of food which
can be easily cooked over an open flame, not necessarily barbeque grill. We're talking wood
fire, primitive camp site stuff. With the right equipment
and recipes, campers can eat like kings. |
SECTION THREE: Waste Not/Want Not
All right, we're talking
using all the buffalo here. There are many parts of animals and plants which can
be made into tasty dishes. Although they may sound a little
strange, the recipes work. Some come from Native Americans,
and some from other countries; few are used today, but in
times past, they helped our ancestors survive. |
SECTION FOUR: Recipes in Retrospect
These are recipes used throughout those dark days
of the Depression, and in both WWI and WWII when certain
foods were rationed. People learned to make meals around
"meatless" days, and learned the value of Victory Gardens. |
SECTION FIVE: Food Preservation
A few basic recipes for canning fruits and
vegetables, making jerky with beef, turkey and other meats,
and various other preservative methods. Some may require
specialized equipment, but most can be done in anyone's
kitchen. |
SECTION SIX: Foods That Last!
We've all heard the story of "stone soup." This
chapter will cover mainly hearty soups and stews that are
slow-cooked either in a modern kitchen or over an open fire.
They're great in cold weather, and can be served for several
meals with careful cooking. |
SECTION SEVEN: What to do With 20-Tons
of Nuts!
The title says it all!
From salad to dessert, main course to appetizer, they all
have one ingredient in common -- that's right.... nuts! |
